In a remarkable achievement for India's space technology sector, Thiruvananthapuram-based HEX20 has successfully launched its Kinetic Optical Yaw Observer (KOYO) satellite via SpaceX's Transporter-17 mission. This launch not only underscores HEX20's growing reputation but also highlights Kerala's emerging role in the global space race. The KOYO satellite, developed for the National Central University of Taiwan, is expected to operate for 18 to 24 months, providing critical data that could enhance India's standing in satellite technology.
HEX20, founded in 2019, has already made significant strides with its first mission, 'Nila', which was part of SpaceX's Transporter-13 mission. The successful deployment of KOYO indicates a maturation of India's private space sector, which is increasingly capable of competing on the international stage. Lloyd Jacob Lopez, co-founder of HEX20, expressed optimism about the future, noting that the satellite's early orbit operations have successfully established communication, paving the way for more ambitious projects.
